Lake Info

Folsom Lake is a lake reservoir for water seekers

Since being created in 1955 for water controls issues in California, Folsom Lake has become a great lake for not such practical factors…such as partying! Folsom Lake is one of California’s most popular reservoirs because it has beautiful waters and great open waters. The lake often goes on speed control however and if you plan on partying with your buddies you will have to obey the laws of the water and stick with the 5 miles per hour speed limit (when the water level is low) and stay away from the parts of the lake that are constantly under construction (many of the ramps/ docks are under construction until next year). Enjoy the lake’s waters and the natural activities such as hiking and biking around the area.

Folsom Lake

Folsom Lake is a reservoir in Northern California about 25 mi (40 km) northeast of Sacramento. The lake is formed by Folsom Dam, constructed in 1955 to control the American River. The dam and lake are part of the Folsom Project, which also includes the Nimbus afterbay reservoir and dam facilities. The Folsom Project, operated by the United States Bureau of Reclamation, is part of the Central Valley Project, a multipurpose project that provides flood control, hydroelectricity, drinking water and water for irrigation. The Folsom Lake State Recreation Area is managed by the California Department of Parks and Recreation.
